Rocksmith 2014 returning to Steam?

Roughly a year ago, Rocksmith2014 was delisted from Steam, and monthly Rocksmith2014 DLCs are delisted. But after a ton of backlash against these delistings, somethings seems to be happening.

The news is Rocksmith Learn & Play, which basically is the Rocksmith you all know.

No, this does not mean Ubisoft is giving up on Rocksmith+. The Subscription service will continue, this news is not changing anything for the scope of Rocksmith+.

If you already own Rocksmith2014, this means that Ubisoft might be picking up critical updates again. Rocksmith Learn & Play is a title update on the old Rocksmith2014. An important word of warning, buying Rocksmith Learn & Play on the same Steam account where you already own Rocksmith2014 might mess up your songs library!

Rocksmith Learn & Play

So what is changed for Rocksmith Learn & Play? The on-disk songs library of licensed songs have been removed, and replaced with songs where all the rights are owned by Ubisoft. This allow the base game to be sold with no impact on licensed song library, and might be available for sales even after last DLC delisting. From the information I have, all these library songs are available in Rocksmith+.

Rocksmith Learn & Play

Rocksmith Learn & Play is available at Steam for 10USD (or equivalent), if you are fast you can grab it on an ongoing 70% sale, 3USD. Regional pricing might deviate.

Downloadable Content

A few Dethklok songs are available as a DLC song pack. Also playable in Rocksmith Learn & Play.

For any new users, Rocksmith 2014 DLCs still available for sale will be compatible with RocksmithLP. That means if you don’t want to play classical music or theme music from Ubisoft games. You can buy DLCs from bands such as Dethklok, Jane’s Addiction, Three Days Grace, Queens of the Stone Age, Primus, and more (until delisting).

All the original lessons for Rocksmith2014 should come along with RocksmithLP. No new lessons are added. There are no plans to add more content later either.

Song selection in Rocksmith Learn & Play

What about RSMod and cDLCs? The new executable for Rocksmith Learn & Play will not change the original game. This means there might be different installers of RSMod and cDLC Enabler, depending if you use Remastered or LP.

Other Platforms

This seems to be Steam only, so if you want it on your console, you are out of luck.

For Mac users who like to play Rocksmith, this is definitely good news. Rocksmith+ does not install directly in Mac, leaving Mac users to figure out how to make it work emulated. Rocksmith2014 came with Mac build, but we are not expecting Rocksmith Learn & Play to support Mac. This is a PC only release.

End Note

So for any of you having friends that never got to try Rocksmith2014. The news is that RocksmithLP is on steam and is as close to the Rocksmith2014 as you can get without including licensed music in the basegame. Yes I know this is something that Ubisoft should have done over a year ago.

I’ve been writing this as news breaks, so I havn’t been able to verify any of the issues mentioned, nor is this a product review. I am just posting this to let you know the news as it unfolds. From all the information I have, Rocksmith Learn & Play is just a repackaged Rocksmith 2014. Any known issues are still the same.

Game experience of Rocksmith Learn & Play is the same as Rocksmith 2014 Remastered
