MetallicaSmith: Rocksmith+ adds Metallica

One of the arguments I second most often hear for not subscribing to Rocksmith+ is the lack of Metallica, the most common being its a subscription service. But this is about to change (or is it?).

It is not really true Rocksmith+ havn’t had any Metallica before now. On release Master of Puppets from Stranger Things soundtrack was added together with DJ Spooky + Kirk Hammet remix of For Whom The Bell Tolls from the Spawn soundtrack. From what I know the Stranger Things soundtrack uses the original Master of Puppets album version from 1986. The DJ Spooky soundtrack must be taken for what it is, a remix.

In December 2023, two more Metallica tracks, Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters was added as in house covers. That is, not the original Metallica recording, but as close to the original as practically, done by Ubisoft.

None of the mentioned tracks are available in US or Canada, because license restrictions. I can understand the frustrations from the American users, but just remember Katatonia and Opeth are not available in Sweden for same reasons.

Metallica – Master of Puppets

This track added as part of the Stranger Things season 4 soundtrack, was probably added partly because Stranger Things soundtrack are licensed different than the original Master of Puppets album, and that around release Stranger Things season 4 was quite hype, and this was seen as a promotion option. The song was added to the Rocksmith+ scraper in a bulk data import a few days before official release of Rocksmith+. In addition to official Bass and Lead tracks, there are community added Lead, Alt Lead, and Rhythm.

DJ Spooky – For Whom The Bell Tolls (The Irony Of It All)

Since this is a remix, licenses to this song is quite different than master recordings of Metallica. From what I know Kirk Hammet did re-record the guitar riff for this remix, while the rest are samples. This song does only have ARCHI AI tracks at this point.

(Made Famous By) Metallica – Enter Sandman

In December 2023, Ubisoft and Rocksmith+ team started adding In House covers of songs, among a few other bands, there was two songs by Metallica, both from the Black Album. In addition to official Lead and Bass, this song have received a community Rhythm track.

(Made Famous By) Metallica – Nothing Else Matters

The ballad Nothing Else Matters was added as In House Cover at the same time as Enter Sandman. This song havn’t received any community tracks, so only the official Lead and Bass tracks available at this moment.

Metallica – For Whom the Bell Tolls

Not a remix this time, added this month the proper master recording from Metallica’s Ride the Lightning album, released 1984.

Metallica – Enter Sandman

Put aside the In House Cover, here is the proper master recording from Black Album.

Metallica – The Unforgiven

Another track from Black Album released in 1991.

Metallica – Whiskey in the Jar

Whiskey in the Jar, a cover song from Garage Inc released in 1998. Originally an Irish trad (we have The Dubliners version), but this is based of Thin Lizzy’s arrangement.

Metallica – One

This song from …And Justice for All is one of my favorite tracks by Metallica.

Metallica – Fade to Black

Another one of my favorite Metallica songs, this one from Ride the Lightning.

Metallica – Nothing Else Matters

And of course, we got this for the last Metallica song in this drop, replacing the last inhouse cover of Metallica.

…and More to Come

As Ubisoft heroically ended their note; …and more to come! This list is the content as of January 23rd. I hope this marks a turning point on licensing, as there are so many other bands I would like to see added.
